Watch us grow!

I am blessed with the opportunity of growth. In the next couple of weeks I will be updating this blog to show all my services offered in the food arena. A great man told me ‘Throw it all out there and see what sticks!’ In order to make all this happen I have taken on some great people to help me see it through.
Welcome Laura Clark for being my right hand gal and keeping things moving.

Welcome Monica Kline for her kitchen support and willingness to work.

Thanks for following and to all you great supporters, Anne Marie

Ps. Thank you Heather for pushing me and believing in me!

Eating out 101

Inspired by a loved one! I was out to dinner with some very important people in my life and I was taken back by the way one of them ordered, “ I will take the shrimp appetizer, then for dinner I would like a side salad, dressing on the side, and your steamed vegetables” then when dinner was over “ I will take the cheese cake!” As the rest of us lay there moaning because we ate to much of a regular dinner and can’t possible order what we really like because we ate what the menu said to. Yet the thinnest one at the table is the only one having dessert! She had a well balanced dinner and felt great! So the lesson is…. #1 Every time you put something in your mouth ask yourself …. Do I really want it and do I need it? #2 order like the thinnest person at the table! Like Meg Ryan in When Harry met Sally. These are tips I can use for the rest of my life and not feel deprived. It’s all about creating good habits for healthy eating. Watch this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnlm2e3EN78

Breakfast Idea #1

Bread! Bread matters! Pick great tasting bread. It should be about quality because it can’t be about quantity. Bread is not bad. Like everything else it is moderation. Limit your bread intake and make it the first half of the these are easy baby steps to eating healthy. Open faced sandwiches are an awesome way to do that.

Miltons Multi-Grain Plus Bread. (Costco is the least expensive)
Yes it does have 120 calories a slice. But it has 4g fiber and 5g protein and remember 1 slice.

Breakfast idea

1 Slice Miltons Multi-Grain Plus Bread 120 cal

1 teaspoon Mayo 33 cal

2 oz Sliced Turkey 65 cal

2 oz Raw Tomato slices 12 cal

1 8 oz Cup of Coffee 6 cal.
= 236 calories for breakfast.

Add a piece of fruit for balance. Remember your first meal should be your biggest! That’s a great meal!

Also use your favorite dishes or eat in your favorite spot so it seems like a treat, not like your missing something!

If you’re watching your calories, diet bread can be down to 40 calories, making your breakfast 156 calories. I think the nutritional benefits are off. You seem to need the fiber and proteins to get the metabolism going in the morning. I say save the tasteless diet bread for your afternoons! This is a choice to make based on a quality life style change.

Jicama

Jicama pronounced /ˈhɪkəmə/ also Mexican Turnip. indigenous within the Americas.

It is the texture of a less dens potato.

Jícama is high in carbohydrates in the form of dietary fiber. It is composed of 86-90% water; it contains only trace amounts of protein and lipids. Its sweet flavor comes from the oligofructose inulin (also called fructo-oligosaccharide) which is a prebiotic.

Jicama is loaded with different vitamins and minerals. In fact, it is an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, potassium, iron, calcium and is also low in sodium. Moreover, it has no calories or fat, and so serves as an essential ingredient in many health food recipes. On an average, one cup of raw sliced jicama contains:

• Calories: 46

• Protein: 0.86 grams

• Carbohydrate: 10.6 grams

• Total Fat: 0.11 grams

• Fiber: 5.8 grams

Here’s a link on how to cook with Jicama……

I love it raw in salads or veggies and dip. It is sweet and juicy!
